Each year, robotics teams from around the globe gather in Houston for the FIRST Robotics Championship, the culminating event of a season defined by problem-solving, teamwork and innovation. Inside the FIRST Robotics Competition<\/h2>\n

During the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), teams and their robots are placed into eight divisions named after influential scientists, including Archimedes, Newton and Galileo.<\/p>\n

The event begins with qualification matches, where teams compete in randomized matchups to earn ranking points. Students arrive having spent months programming, building and practicing for the same seasonal challenge. In 2025, the game theme, Reefscape, challenged teams to solve an underwater-inspired puzzle featuring elements inspired by coral and algae.<\/p>\n

From Qualifications to the Einstein Playoffs<\/h2>\n

Following qualification matches, the top eight teams in each division select partners to form alliances. Each alliance consists of four teams, with three competing at a time and one serving as a reserve.<\/p>\n

Alliances advance through division playoffs in a double-elimination bracket until one winning alliance emerges from each division.<\/p>\n

Those eight division champions then move on to the Einstein Playoffs, where they compete head-to-head to determine the overall World Champion, the final and most exciting moment of the Championship.<\/p>\n
